Varied hikes around Lake Walchen
Walchensee, with its water shimmering in a gentle blue-green, stretches between the villages of Urfeld, Einsiedl, Niedernach, Altach and, of course, Walchensee itself. The small settlements with their idyllic charm mostly consist of only a few sidewalks. Anyone walking along the hiking trails at Walchensee will meet only a few residents. In total, only just under 1,000 people live here.
From Urfeld, the hikes can be continued by boat. Once the lords of the monastery Benediktbeuern were taken across the lake, today only tourists enjoy the crossing. The attraction at Walchensee is the Viking village Flake in Walchensee. The village served as a backdrop in Sachenbach for the film „Wickie und die starken Männer“ and was later rebuilt here.

The circular route around Walchensee is approx. 25 km long. On foot, the tour is not technically very demanding and has hardly any ascents, but due to the length alone, a partial hike is more suitable, for example, an easy hike around the Zwergern peninsula, or a round trip up to the Herzogstand to enjoy the fantastic view of the idyllically situated Walchensee between the Karwendel and the foothills of the Alps.
