Via a fitness and forest nature trail to a 1000-year-old oak We start the loop to the Wolfgang Oak in a sporty way. The fitness and forest nature trail is a small but very lovely circular route. Over the Eichelberg, we reach the 1000-year-old Wolfgang Oak. In reality, the pedunculate oak is about 600 years old. It is almost hollow, which gives it a rustic character, and has an impressive trunk circumference of about 9.60 m. The legend is likely not only the age of the oak but also the sermon that Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg is said to have given here 1000 years ago. Bishop Wolfgang was canonized in 1052 after his death. He is the founder of today’s Domspatzen Gymnasium and the patron saint of Bavaria and Regensburg. His bones rest in the Wolfgang crypt under the Basilica of St. Emmeram in Regensburg.
