Bachtäler, wide meadows, peace, an ideal worldThis loop through the valleys of Wethau and Nautschke not only geographically marks the transition between the regions of Naumburg and Zeitz. It also becomes significantly quieter and more contemplative here.The start is Mertendorf with the Vehrigsweg, named after Ursula Vehrig, a painter from Mertendorf (1898–1972). Past charming villages with old farmhouses, wide meadows, and through small forests, we reach Gröbitz, whose manor house of the former knight's estate (originally 16th century), known as the castle, is a small highlight of this hike. The return path goes through the idyllic Nautschke valley to Gieckau, where a break is recommended at a nice rest area or in today's inn, once the residential house of a farm from 1726. We return via the Halbberge nature reserve along the Schoppbach back to Mertendorf.
