The landscapes of this beautiful route bear witness to the eclectic work of an exceptional man, Pastor J-F. Oberlin: The "Resting Places", groves for men and beasts, the brides' alley lined with sumptuous lime trees symbolizing the commitment of young people, the Oberlin museum in the old rectory, as well as the former kindergartens he founded, represent the 59 years he dedicated to the social and cultural development of this region.

Castle hike with plenty of viewsA often underestimated hiking area is the mountain ridge over the wine town of Dambach-la-Ville, which is not particularly outstanding in terms of elevation. This starts already with the starting point of the tour, Dambach-la-Ville, which is completely unjustly not among the best-known half-timbered towns of the Alsace Wine Route (Route des Vins d’Alsace). Seen from the plain, the two castle ruins Ortenbourg and Bernstein – the third site, the Ramstein ruin, is somewhat more hidden – certainly look striking and attractive, but the pull of the neighboring Haut-Kœnigsbourg is much greater. Passionate hikers will nevertheless have a lot of fun with the tour presented here, which is not too strenuous.
