From the picturesque Krka Valley To the youth-giving water source The Krka is a picturesque, natural river that is very popular with kayakers. Hikers, on the other hand, have only a few opportunities to access the river. One of these is the Otočec water castle, where you can hike on the island and along the southern bank of the Krka. South of the water castle runs the Gorjanci ridge, whose highest viewpoint, Trdinov vrh, is named after the Slovenian poet Janez Trdina, who wrote extensively about the region and its inhabitants. One of his stories describes the spring in the Gorjanci and the castle lady who washed in it and became young again, i.e., returned to being a "young lady"; since then the spring has been called "Gospodična" (= young lady). There used to be two churches at the summit, Sv. Jera and Sv. Ilije. While only a ruin remains of the little church Sv. Jera, the chapel of Sv. Ilije has been restored. The border to Croatia runs between the two churches: Sv. Jera stands on Slovenian soil, Sv. Ilije on Croatian soil.
