The medieval fortress of Schwarzenberg Castle, first mentioned in a document in 1150, is now largely used as a school. The grounds and the castle park, with its exceptional collection of trees, can be visited at any time. The monastery, located just a few hundred meters away, with its Baroque pilgrimage church and chapel of grace, has its origins in a simple sacred oak tree, around which Countess Maria Justina had a wooden chapel built in 1670. The “Maria Hilf” image of grace housed there was likely created in Passau in 1622. The stone sculpture is still venerated as an image of grace today.> We begin our walk in Scheinfeld at the Schwarzenberg Monastery Parking Lot 01.The blue arrow leads usnext toward Thierberg. Passing the church, take a right onto the gravel path at the following left-hand curve, heading toward Thierberg. Shortly thereafter, at the fork with the bench, we keep to the right; at the next fork, we keep to the left and head steeply uphill. A path through woods and meadows leads us straight ahead. We continue to follow the blue arrow through Thierberg 02. At the main road, we keep to the right. Shortly after leaving town, we turn left onto a dirt road toward Kornhöfstadt. We now follow the blue arrow steadily along the edge of the forest, passing oak trees. At the first barn, after a good 20 minutes, we turn right and continue downhill on a forest path. On the outskirts of Kornhöfstadt 03, we turn left onto the paved road. We cross the main street, then continue on S1 and S4 out of the village, continuing on the paved road. After about 10 minutes, we keep to the right onto a gravel path. We now follow it steadily up and down through the Schwarzenberger Forest 04. At the T-intersection, we turn right and continue straight ahead until we reach the ST2261. We cross straight ahead and continue along a narrower forest path; soon we find ourselves on a well-marked forest trail. After about 500 meters, we turn left onto a wider forest path. We follow S1 toward Scheinfeld; the path quickly narrows back into a trail. At the fork with the hunting blind 05, we continue straight ahead. After a good 500 meters, the path leads us down a flight of steps; at the end of the steps, we keep to the left and continue down the trail. A wider path soon leads us straight ahead; immediately after the pond, we turn left onto the Way of St. James. It takes us to Schwarzenberg Castle in a few hundred meters. From here, it’s just under a minute back to the starting point at the Schwarzenberg Monastery 01 parking lot.
