Circular hike through and around the Filze between Wessobrunn and Apfeldorf

▶ From Wessobrunn 01, we head west along Feichtmayrstraße, pass a small grove, take a right-hand curve, and turn left just before a crossroads to follow a long dirt road 02 further west. On a gentle downhill stretch, the road forks. At this fork 03, we keep to the right, following the signpost to Seehäusl. The trail then climbs slightly and leads into the forest. We now follow the main trail for a long stretch until the road forks east of the Schwaigwaldmoos Nature Reserve 04. There, turn right and follow the signpost to Seehäusl again. The path then descends slightly and soon reaches a crossroads. Continue straight ahead at the crossroads and follow a logging trail through the forest as it continues downhill. After a dip, the trail curves slightly to the left and climbs a bit again. At the highest point, the trail forks. Turn right there and, at the edge of a clearing, turn right again, through a short stretch of forest and into the next clearing.Finally, at the weir on the eastern shore of the surprisingly large Lake Engelsried 05, you’ll reach a small paved road, which you’ll follow along the northern shore to the Seehäusl inn 06.Behind the inn, a residential path begins that runs along the northwest shore, next to the fences of the lakeside recreational properties, until it reaches a dirt road. Continue along it by the lake to the Lüßgraben, an interesting beaver habitat. Next to the ditch, we come to an asphalt path 07. Turn left onto it, cross the Lüßgraben, and leave the biotope.The small dirt road then takes us southeast through a varied landscape of woods and meadows; go straight at the intersection and, at a junction, turn sharply left up a hill. On the southern edge of the Schwaigwaldmoos Nature Reserve, slightly easy to miss, there is a spring to the left of the road marked by a cross 08 and a nice bench. We now follow the path for a long stretch in the same direction, continuing straight ahead at the signposted junction with the bike path to Wessobrunn and across a wide, open ridge. At the point where the trail makes a slight right curve and descends toward Streberg, we must leave the road to the left 09 and follow a tractor track down a meadow slope to the edge of the forest. There, we look for a narrow forest path 10 that runs north along the eastern edge of the Rohrmoos Nature Reserve.After an uncomfortably wet stretch through the woods, you’ll come to a logging road; follow it to the left and you’ll soon reach a well-paved forest road. This takes you north to the access road, where you turn right and head back to Wessobrunn 01.
