Wine, Forest and Distant Views As an elongated table mountain, the Irchel, which drops steeply to the Rhine, dominates the estuary area between the Töss and Thur. Its plateau features a number of beautiful viewpoints, especially where the Nagelfluh layer resting on the molasse breaks off abruptly in steep walls. Its slopes are fundamentally different. The dark forest side in the northeast contrasts with the sunny wine side in the southwest, where the circular tour begins.
