Hikes in Orero

Monte Ramaceto offers a varied circular hike through Liguria's green hills, exciting views and historical paths.

The Coreglia Loop is a hiking route of about 12 km that serves as an interesting access way to the Sanctuary of Montallegro from Fontanabuona, starting from the locality Pian dei Manzi.

It is a very challenging hike due to the elevation change and length, but it rewards you on a clear day with breathtaking views from the summit. It is an ancient ridge path that rises from Pianezza, at the bottom of the Val Fontanabuona, up to the Bocca di Serva, on the main watershed just west of Monte Ramaceto. The route starts from the valley floor road, just north of the Pianezza settlement. With a short climb, you reach the hamlet of Ripaio, where you turn right. Then you ascend northwards along the old ridge mule track that leads to the village of Orero, then continue on paved road up to Croce d'Orero. Here you rejoin the old mule track which, cutting across the side of the Lorsica valley, climbs to meet, at altitude 782, the carriage road connecting Croce d'Orero to Lorsica. Crossing the road, you continue climbing by path up to Bocca di Feia, the pass between Fontanabuona and Aveto, where you meet the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Following the Alta Via to the right, you reach in half an hour the southwest summit of Monte Ramaceto. Here, in a splendid panoramic position, stands a small chapel refuge, equipped with two stone benches but without a door, built in 1971 by the CAI of Chiavari. Monte Ramaceto, formed by a long sandstone ridge, has the north side entirely covered with beeches, while to the south it drops steeply to the Val Cichero with a spectacular slope of rocks and grass, which semicircle closes the head of the valley. If you wish, from the Ramaceto Chapel you can continue along the ridge on the Alta Via up to the main summit (1345 m), which, however, is covered by beeches and therefore has little view. The descent continues always along the ridge towards Mt. Mignano without climbing the summit, continuing the descent towards Mt. Bello. Now you reach the village of Costa di Soglio, and with the path leading back to the provincial road at the Pianezza parking lot.

Beautiful and very challenging route with views of the valley, with the option to reduce the climb starting from Costa di Soglio (parking for only 3 cars). Nice varied and panoramic route, especially in the upper part. The climb of the south ridge of Dente di Ramaceto (classifiable as EE) adds a bit of spice to the trip.

From Pass to Pass (Alta Via, Stages 30a, 31a)The fit hiker enjoys a wealth of views on this stage, the changing landscape scenery, and above all the mountain solitude that prevails here all year round.

The Coreglia Ring is a hiking trail of 14 Km that offers an interesting access route to the Sanctuary of Montallegro from Fontanabuona, starting from the Pian dei Manzi locality near the Coreglia Town Hall (Parking). The trail ascends towards the village of Coreglia Ligure until reaching the ridge at the Coreglia Pass passing over Monte Rosa, then proceeding along the ridge to Mount Perini. We extended the hike to reach the Alpini Refuge of Mount Pegge, round trip up to Mount Perini at the marked junction. From there, the route descends through the Canevale Pass and down to Canevale and Pian di Coreglia, via the Chichizola Path, finally closing the loop back at the Pian dei Manzi locality. The estimated duration is around 6 hours. The signposts are: two empty red diamonds for the ascent from Coreglia and two solid red triangles for the descent from Canevale along the Chichizola path.
