Oppède-le-Vieux is an unforgettable village nestled in the hills of the Luberon Mountains. The medieval and Renaissance-era houses, the 12th-century church, the ruins of the medieval castle, the washhouses, and the chapels of Saint-Laurent and Saint-Antonin create a timeless atmosphere. Oppède-le-Vieux takes you back in time!> We start at parking lot01 and walk through the "Jardin Paysager" toward "Village Vieux." From the restaurant "Le Petit Café" in the village center, we follow the white-and-red trail markers to the right. After a few meters, our trail veers left off the road. An old stone path takes us past a cozy country house to the “Combrès”02 signpost, where we leave the GR 6 again. From here on, we follow the yellow trail markers and head toward “La Jassine.” The trail first leads through a small cedar forest with beautiful trees, some of which are 120 years old and over 30 meters tall. Then the gorge becomes increasingly narrow and the trail steeper. At one point, the trail runs unsecured along the edge of a precipice. Caution! Especially with children! At the end of the gorge, there’s one final steep ascent with a few sections requiring climbing, after which the most strenuous part of the hike is behind us. Now the trail leads first through the maquis and then slightly uphill across a plateau until we meet the high-altitude road at “La Jassine”03. From the ridge, we have a magnificent view all the way to Mont Ventoux. We turn left and, at “Le Pradon,” walk straight through a tall cedar forest across the GR6. Continuing along the ridge, past a cistern, we reach “Les Hautes Plaines”04, where we turn left onto a trail. On the rocky path, we follow the cairns and the yellow trail markers. After a long descent, we arrive at “Poudarigue”05, where we turn left and continue our hike toward Vieil Oppède. After just a few meters, the yellow markers lead us left again onto a trail. The path widens, and in a right-hand curve, we leave the white-and-red-marked “Grande Traversée de Vaucluse” and turn left back onto a trail. The path winds up and down, passing two houses. We rejoin the Grande Traversée and keep to the left onto a dirt road. Under a cluster of tall cedars, we turn right, and again at the next intersection. After one last short climb, we return to Oppède-le-Vieux01.
