When planning, I noticed that there are incredibly many former mills in the region. That made me curious. So I started in the Jammertal at the Brückenmühle heading towards Hasenbach. Wide paths between fields and forest allowed for a good start, and right from the beginning this panoramic view was uplifting. Even before I reached Hasenbach, the sequence of mills continued after the Brückenmühle, starting with the Öhlmühle, followed by the Neumühle, Uhu's Mühle, Hasenmühle, Stemmelmühle, Altbäckersmühle, Obermühle, Dennermühle, Mittelmühle, Untermühle, Neubäckersmühle up to Kloster Arnstein. All mills appeared to be privately owned, some inhabited, others seemed to be under renovation or abandoned. In between, the Hasenbach flows into the Dörsbach... From there, it continued on the left side in the valley of the Dörsbach until it disappears into the Lahn, up to Obernhof. The ascent to the Kanzel is worthwhile and is rewarded with a view of Kloster Arnstein, the Lahn, and far into the surroundings. Back on the other side of the Dörsbach there were more destinations - the summit cross Liselei and the 19-Hole Gorge. Both should not be missed! I can fully recommend the hike through these valleys. Varied, beautiful landscape and plant diversity, some climbs, but great panoramas and fast descents. In summer, the valley offers pleasant coolness. For resting, playing, and romping, there are designated rest areas with tables, benches, and partly small huts providing ample opportunity. The streams carried enough water, but were not too deep, providing adequate access... an Eldorado not only for children! I definitely recommend sturdy footwear as well as surefootedness and a head for heights. There are some narrow paths, a few slightly exposed sections, though Kanzel and summit cross can be omitted. One or two trail sections provide the necessary safety with ropes and railings.

Along the mills in the deep valleyThe streams of the "Blue Land" once provided ideal conditions for the blue dyers to wash their cloths. Numerous water mills used to clatter in the valleys. This circular tour through the Hasen and the upper Jammer valley takes us to the most remote of these mills. Between the deep valley cuts, a mountain ridge must be crossed at the beginning, which leads to the Wildweiber Cave in the area of Weißler Höhe, a bizarre rock formation.

This long hike takes you into the Nassau Nature Park. Far from any roads, the trail winds along narrow and sometimes rocky paths through the gorge-like upper Dörsbach Valley, also known as the “Valley of Tears.” The trail through the Hasenbach Valley is equally wild and romantic, but easier to walk. ▶ From the Weiherwiese parking lot inKatzenelnbogen01, walk past the kindergarten. Turn left onto Gartenstraße. Turn right onto Stiftsstraße. Until you reach the Obermühle, the yellow millwheel on a blue background marks the Mühlenwanderweg trail. Walk along the edge of the forest. Pass the turnoff to the Forest Adventure Trail and the Klingelbachermühle. Continue straight ahead with a view of the Dörsbach Valley lined with meadows. Enter the forest and take the first right at the intersection. After about 150 m, turn left to the Jammertal hiking parking lot near the Brückenmühle. Here, turn left onto a paved path, cross the Dörsbach, and pass a wastewater treatment plant. Pass theKesselmühle 02 and turn onto a gravel path. Climb a hill to the fork in the path before the Haarmühle. Turn right uphill, then descend to the Dillenbergermühle. A short stretch uphill to the right, then downhill to the left via steps. Cross a stream on a footbridge, then turn left and follow a path along the bank of the Dörsbach. Pass a rest area, cross a tributary, and head uphill, then downhill along the bank of the Dörsbach. Cross a tributary via a footbridge again, then ascend to a wide cross-trail and follow it along the high bank. Turn left at the sharp right-hand curve on the hill. Head downhill through a spruce forest, then follow a rocky path along the mountainside. Railings and handrails provide support on the most difficult sections. Continue to an asphalt road, walk 100 m uphill to the right, then turn left onto a trail and descend to the gravel path near the Neuwagenmühle. Turn right at the fork on the hill. Turn left and head downhill. Soon uphill, then downhill on a wide path along the mountainside to the curve of the Attenhausen–B 260 road. Follow the road downhill to the left. Pass theObermühle03, cross the Dörsbach, and turn left into the Hasenbach Valley, leaving the Mühlenwanderweg trail and continuing to follow the black diamond. Cross a bridge over the Hasenbach and turn right. Follow the left-hand bend of the wide path steeply uphill to an intersection. Take a sharp right. Follow the mountainside down to the Altbäckersmühle. Follow a trail along the bank of the Hasenbach. Pass a shelter. Cross the stream twice in quick succession on a footbridge. At the Stemmelmühle, cross the stream again and follow the wide gravel path tothe Hasenmühle04. Turn left here. Cross the Hasenbach via a bridge and immediately turn right onto a trail. At the Uhusmühle, switch to the other bank, turn left immediately, walk about 100 m across a meadow along the stream, then cross a footbridge to the other bank. Walk along the edge of the forest and past a wastewater treatment plant to a crossroad. Turn right here. Cross the stream again on a bridge. At the Neumühle, cross the stream once more. Walk across meadows, then along the edge of the forest into the corner of the woods. Take a sharp left onto a trail and head steeply uphill. Pass an old Jewish cemetery to reach the paved road at the top of the hill. Turn right downhill. Follow Mühlstraße intoNiedertiefenbach05. Turn left toward Katzenelnbogen, leaving the diamond-shaped trail behind and continuing on an unmarked path. At the church, turn right onto Kirchstraße. Turn left onto Waldstraße, which turns into a wide gravel path. Descend through the forest into the valley. Follow a strip of meadow for about 600 m through the valley to an intersection. Turn right here and cross a narrow tributary to a cross-path. Turn right here. Now follow J2. The trail immediately turns left and leads moderately uphill along the stream. Pass a water tank and theWildweiberhöhle06—a strikingly shaped rock formation still 500 m away. The trail turns left and reaches a junction at the top of the hill. Turn right here. Walk about 300 m to the next junction and turn left. Now continue straight ahead. At the Weißlerhöhe hiking parking lot, cross the Katzenelnbogen–Roth road, leaving trail J2 behind, and continue on trails J3 and J4 along a wide forest road downhill to a junction.
