Scenic Partisan Trails (Alta Via, Stages 28a, 29a)This stage of the Alta Via follows a supply trail used by partisans during the Second World War. Barbagelata was one of their main strongholds and was therefore burned down by German troops in 1944.

Through woods and panoramas of the Trebbia Valley from the village of Torriglia, known for its famous Canestrelli biscuits, you reach the summit of Monte Lavagnola on a section of the Via del Mare trail. The route is not very tiring with a modest elevation gain. From the summit, there is a view of the upper Fontanabuona valley and beautiful views over the mountains of the eastern Ligurian area down to the sea. The loop closes by descending through beech woods and solitary forests.

Hiking on the Apennine WatershedIn the area of this hike, both the Àveto River, which drains into the Po and the Adriatic Sea, and the Molinello, which flows towards the Ligurian Sea, originate.

Torriglia is a summer holiday destination favored by the people of Genoa. It lies in a wide basin facing south, at the foot of the pyramidal Monte Prelà. From this basin originates the Scrivia Stream, while a little to the east are also the springs of the Trebbia. The village is overlooked by the ruins of the Doria-Fieschi castle, located on a hill. (800 m). It is a not very strenuous route, shared with a section of the Via del Mare. Following the undulating watershed between Scrivia and Trebbia, one reaches the summit of Monte Lavagnola, which overlooks the upper Val Fontanabuona, and from here, following the ridge, one arrives at Scoffera.

Ascent to Mount Caucasus (1,245 m) starting and ending in Corsiglia.

Between the Scofféra Pass and the Giassina Saddle, the reliefs have rather soft profiles and are mostly covered with forests. The route therefore is not too strenuous, with not too steep ups and downs.

This is a short and not very strenuous stage, which can be easily linked with the previous one. You walk on cart tracks and trails, along a fairly even wooded ridge.

Hike along a scenic high-altitude trail from Passo della Scof­fera to Monte Lavagnola, where you can enjoy panoramic views stretching from the sea over the nearby Antola Range to the Alps in the northwest. The descent to Torriglia is a pleasant walk through the woods.> A section of the Ligurian High Trail, marked with red-and-white AV signs, begins at the bus stop in Scoffera01; follow this trail to Monte Lavagnola. Turn right and walk up the paved road; after 70 m, at the transformer station, the AV trail branches off to the left. It leads uphill through the forest; soon the view opens up and you reach a fork in the trail on the hill02. Here, turn sharply left and climb along the ridge; from Monte Castelluzzo03, you’ll have a magnificent mountain panorama. The high-altitude trail now passes below the summit of Monte la Colla04 and then meets an access road. Here, turn briefly to the left, then immediately right after 20 m, and continue up the right-hand path to the ridge. Passing a power pole 05 above the houses in Rossi, the trail then ascends in two stages; you’ll pass Monte Bragagli06 on its forested north side below the summit and soon after reach the trail junction at Colle Nord di Monte Lavagnola07. Here, turn right and after a few minutes you’ll reach the summit of Monte Lavagnola08, at 1,113 m the highest point of the hike, offering a magnificent panorama. The inscriptions on the pyramid commemorate the victims of the battles of 1747 and World War I. Returning to the saddle 07, you now leave the AV trail markers and follow the yellow triangle markers (E7) toward Torriglia, as indicated by the signposts. The path, which slopes gently downhill—and can be muddy after heavy rain—leads through a beautiful beech forest; after 25 minutes, you’ll reach an access road, walk along it past a few houses, and then, after passing the transmission towers, continue straight ahead at the curve along the nature trail to the Cappella della Costa09. Here, turn left down the roughly paved path, turn right at the road, and then immediately left again onto the path leading downhill. It soon widens; at the road below, turn right and you’ll soon reach the center of Torriglia10with a beautiful view of the Castello. The bus stop for the return trip to Genoa is located across from the church.
