Airy Two-Peak Tour in the »Ore Mountains« of TuscanyThe limestone massif Le Cornate boasts perhaps the most beautiful panoramic summit in southern Tuscany. The distinctive ridge is also the highest elevation in the Colline Metallifere. The nature-friendly trail to the summit will make hiking enthusiasts' hearts beat faster. From Cornate, the route continues to the neighboring Poggio Ritrovoli, which, though less prominent in its massive form, also offers a beautiful view just a few meters lower.

Climbing the ridge of the limestone massif (1,059 m) is a special experience, as it offers an impressive panoramic view of southern Tuscany and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The starting point, Gerfalco, seems like the perfect example of a well-fortified mountain village.> From the parking lot just before Gerfalco01, the road at the village entrance leads to Agriturismo Poggio alla Luna02 with its garden, where we turn left. A sign (r/w) points to the marked trail. The steep ascent along the southeastern ridge of the Cornate now requires some stamina. At the first clearing after 30 minutes, we already get a glimpse of the panorama to the south that lies ahead. Soon the spruce trees become sparser, and we begin to see sections of the mountain ridge. At a small wooden sign surrounded by pine trees, we read “Le Cornate 1059 m”03.On a clear day, you can even see Elba and Corsica; otherwise, the view stretches from Monte Argentario over the Maremma ridge and the Monti dell’Uccellina to the foothills of the Apennines and the Apuan Alps. On this hill, the trail is somewhat exposed in places, but becomes clearly visible again in the tall pine forest that follows. In a clearing open to the west, we can see the plumes of steam rising from distant Lardello. Continuing the descent from here, we reach the information sign for Cava Romano04, 865 m. There, the trail heads north (to the right) toward Poggio Ritrovoli or Poggio Coltelli. Further down on the eastern slope, after 10 minutes, there’s a view of distant Volterra. At the clearing of Campo al Turco (792 m), head east (right), then continue straight ahead at the next junction (05). Here, you have the option of taking a detour via Mount Poggio al Coltelli or Poggio Ritrovoli (1,015 m) (see map).We walk beneath a power line on the left through a large blackberry patch, where the trail is barely visible, keeping parallel to the mountainside. The path, now growing increasingly narrow, has deep ruts from the rain and requires careful attention; stinging nettles and blackberry vines creep onto the trail. Next, at junction06, we reach the trail that runs past Poggio Ritrovoli, which now leads us to the right toward Gerfalco01 and the Agriturismo Poggio alla Luna, which we passed at the beginning of the hike.

Le Lame - Poggio Ritrovoli - Poggetto ai Coltelli Achtung Teile der Strecke sind mit einigen Brombeersträuchern etwas schwieriger zu Begehen und in Teilen als Privat gekennzeichnet.

Panorama bellissimo, foreste e percorso lungo il fiume cecina, ci sono tanti posti dove il percorso fa guado.
