Your route, to the end of the Camino, is not extremely complicated, the average of its stages is around 24-25 km/day, something very normal on the Jacobean route. If we take a look at its profile in search of big slopes, the most notable is the climb to O Cebreiro, a classic. This climb is somewhat complicated, so much so that, hundreds of years ago in winter times and due to its snowfalls, there was a need to avoid this climb. That is why one of the main routes of the Camino called Winter Route (Camino de Invierno) emerged, which diverted south of Galicia and thus avoided the mentioned climb. Nowadays, even in winter, it is not complicated to make that climb due to all the equipment available and even a much better physical preparation by the pilgrims who make the Camino.

Passing through a few small villages, beautiful landscapes, and historic sites, there is once again a risk of flooding here during heavy rain.> Leaving Portomarín 01 behind us, we head down from the central square by the church on Rúa Compostela, which soon leads to the river on the right. At the main road, we turn left and cross the bridge. We then turn right onto the forest path on the left and continue steadily, though pleasantly, uphill. When we reach the top, the forest opens up to a meadow landscape. We steadily approach the main road, follow it to a disused factory, and continue on the right side along wide, well-maintained paths. At a plant fertilizer factory (Aviporto), we switch back to the left side. About 150 m beyond that, we pass through the small village of Toxibó (Gonzar) 02. Crossing meadows, we reach Gonzar 03 itself 3 km further on and can now decide whether to take the road (in case of rain or wet conditions) or the uneven dirt road to the left. After another kilometer on the Camino, we arrive in Castromaior 04, where there is a hostel at the entrance to the village. Passing through the village, the path climbs for less than 1 km until we reach the Castro de Castormaior archaeological site at the top. We walk on flat ground again and approach the road, which offers fantastic views. At the bus stop, we cross the road to the right, then turn left again 500 m later. Immediately afterward, we reach O Hospital (San Mamede do Río) 05 and arrive at the N-540 intersection. The arrows guide us over the bridge to the left and then right onto the country road, from which we soon reach the beautiful village of Vendas de Narón 06 (bar). Behind the small chapel, there’s a lovely rest area with a fountain. Continuing uphill past a eucalyptus plantation, we soon reach the highest point of the trail 07. When we look through the trees, we see the vast expanse of the hilly and mountainous landscape. From here, the trail heads steadily downhill to the left of the road, passing numerous villages. We leave A Previsa (Bar) and Os Lameiros behind and walk past a lovely rest area next to the road into the very tranquil village of Ligonde 08. At the edge of town, we can take a rocky and uneven shortcut to the road on the left, though it can turn into a stream when it rains. We then head back up the road toward Airexe 09. After a descent and another ascent, we reach a crossroads with wonderful views. The next village is Portos 10, with its large steel ants. Passing through two or three more small villages, we soon reach the N-547, which takes us left to our destination for the day, now not far away. Right on the road is A Brea 11, a popular rest stop with a restaurant. Continuing along paths prone to wet and muddy conditions, we arrive at a beautiful recreation and sports park with two hostels and a restaurant a good 1 km before Palas de Rei. Passing through the park, we head up the hillside to Palas de Rei 12, our destination for the day.
