On the Nimberg TrailLike the significantly larger Tuniberg, the Nimberg is a hill composed of Mesozoic rocks, which were covered with loess after the Ice Age. Geologically, it is one of several fault blocks that slid down from the basement of the Black Forest during the subsidence of the Upper Rhine Graben and that now rise several dozen meters above their surroundings. Through a gently undulating loess bridge, the Nimberg connects to the March Hill to the south. The Nimberg Trail, which this hiking proposal largely follows, links the most attractive points of the small ridge in an easy circular hike. Otherwise, the area is especially popular as a local recreation destination for the Breisgau metropolis of Freiburg. Several routes are also marked for Nordic walking and inline skating.

Dreisam Lowlands Trail and March Hills TrailCombining the Dreisam Lowlands Trail and the March Hills Trail creates a scenic loop through the March region. Along the way, numerous information panels provide interesting insights into the history of the landscape as well as the flora and fauna of this region in northern Freiburg. The Dreisam Lowlands Trail also marks the start of the Burgundy Trail, which spans more than 27 kilometers, connecting the March region with Munzingen and running once along the length of the Tuniberg. As an alternative route, the northern section to Gottenheim is described here, which passes by Lake Münstud and winds through the forests. Those wishing to hike the entire Burgunderpfad all the way to Munzingen (separately signposted throughout) should expect a walking time of about six hours from Hugstetten.
