From Borgomanero, on a loop route: The first point of interest is the Church of St. Bernard in the Borgomanero district; park your car in the square there and walk towardthe former convent along a steep paved road. You’ll then reach the Chapel of the Madonna and Child, before venturing into the woods and continuing on to where the Via Barbarana resumes, passing by the hamlet of Bergallo in the municipality of Cureggio. On the way back, you’ll walk among the beautiful rows of grapevinesknown as the “Madonna dell’Uva” vineyard, named after the small church of the same name—now in ruins—situated on a hillside terrace that separates the Agogna River valley from that of the Sizzano, alongside the ruins of an 11th-century castle; the area is known as Loc. Castellazzo, in the municipality of Cureggio. The trail will reach the back of the chapel seen earlier, then descend again toward the church of St. Bernard.

Meeting set for 2:45 PM in what looked like a small grove just opposite the motocross of Maggiora, based on the location seen on Maps. I make a final call at 2:43 PM saying I was on my way, leave the car on Via Vignole and cross the road to walk down the road. Even this, which looked like a "little alley," seemed endless; I passed two houses with very long fences, skirting the woods for about 1 km. From the last house before the woodland vegetation, at the bottom of the garden, a medium-sized black dog ran out, which had barked threateningly at me throughout the journey from behind the fence; I see it running towards me from behind and honestly didn’t know whether to laugh, because I saw a lady in front of the house who was then loudly calling it, or to be afraid, but it turned out to be friendly and sociable. I continue and the path disappears: I walk through the woods for another one and a half kilometers by eye, taking about 20 minutes from when I parked. Not knowing where or how to go on, I call the contact and tell him to come where I’ve sent the location on WhatsApp, because I didn’t feel like continuing anymore, especially since I also had to return. At 3:03 PM he still tells me to continue and go forward, so I proceed and find myself out of the woods, skirting some meadows, then facing a stream (Sizzone) wide and full of water. I didn’t know how to cross it, so I tried to jump on the stones, but eventually there were no more and the bank was still far, I made the longest jump I could but ended up inside -.- Damn, so cold!!! So I call back and ask if this road is normal and if there is a river, and he tells me something like I should have entered from another way, but I didn’t understand well, and I insist that he come towards me, but he kept sending me the location at the exact same spot, after over half an hour of walking. I start to get annoyed and write that he should come to me and that I would not go further, otherwise I’d turn back and go home. Final call at 3:23 PM. After 7-8 minutes, I see him arriving running from the umpteenth hill where I was at the top, having already done at least 5 hills with as many descents. Finally I can return, even though I know I have to cross the river again and wonder how, because I couldn’t get wet now, due to the merchandise uh… being carried In the end, I foolishly searched for a spot where the water was shallow, but couldn't find it; then wandering around I found a small bridge with precarious barriers, which I crossed quickly for fear it might collapse, as it didn’t inspire any confidence. So I return towards the houses and, just before exiting the woods, I find the lady I had seen in the garden of the last house; she was the owner of the dog that had followed me for a stretch, up to just before crossing the river and was looking for her dog to bring it back home. She told me that not many people walk on foot around there (I immediately thought "of course, the only idiot to take the wrong way is me" xD) and, astonished, asked me how I managed to cross the river. I smiled and replied: "Me? Guess" … I was completely soaked, at +9°. I then arrive at the car at 3:59 PM and realize I walked 11,902 steps, covering a total of 8.3 km, at an average speed of 8:45 min./km. I don’t understand why this map shows 1.1 km one way when it should be 4.15 km. Actually, when I met the other person, they told me that I should have entered from Cascina Fugnano in Maggiora, that is the road before the one entering the motocross, so I wouldn’t have had to cross the Sizzone and there’s a road that then becomes a path, but you can get there by car comfortably. Anyway, it was a nice walk, fairly challenging. The next time I will try to get there from Colombaro in Borgomanero.
