Good 30 minutes by car from Feriendorf Pulvermaar you can embark on a time travel into the "hot past" of the Vulkaneifel. The Booser Doppelmaar consists of two extensive shallow basins in the landscape. They do not correspond to the typical idea of a maar, as they silted up long ago and have little in common with the famous blue eyes of the Eifel.

▶ Before parking lot01, turn right onto the "Doppelmaar Tour" and start on the Traumpfad trail; soon after entering the forest, follow the switchbacks down to the old Schemel parking lot. Descend alongside the L 94, cross to the other side of the road, and continue downhill; turn left before the western maar and follow the edge of the forest around Booser Weiher02. 100 m before the country road, turn right and head downhill; cross the road and follow the row of trees down the valley. From the plum trees, turn left and continue for 1 km along the left side of the valley, passing the Trockenmaar, until you reach the Stumpfarmweg trail (sign!) crossing in front of the Nitzbach Valley03. Turn right across the small stream and ascend through the forest; take the cross path to the left and continue 1.5 km high above the beautiful Nitzbach Valley; from the edge of the forest, head uphill with a view of the Nürburg and over the village of Nitz. Cross just one paved road and follow the trail steeply uphill to Hölgertberg04. Wind your way along the road across the ridge; at the intersection (first-aid station), turn right through the open fields, then climb gently for 900 m through the Wehrholz forest to the Petrus wayside shrine. At the trail junction, head slightly to the right. At the next junction, go straight ahead; at the following one, turn left and head uphill across the field. Turn right for a view over Boos, then continue to the Schneeberg, where you should climb the Boos “Eifel Tower”05 (125 steps!): Panoramic view of the High, Eastern, and Volcanic Eifel, as well as the Westerwald and Hunsrück. On the descent, turn right around the volcanic hill. After 100 m, you can take a detour into the lava pit to see a lava bomb. Then continue along the trail, passing the shelter. Shortly afterward, at the signpost, do not turn right(!), but instead continue straight ahead on the same path; after a slight ascent through the forest, descend directly back to the starting point.
