Hikes in Licques

The Great Route Path  GR 128 runs from Wissant to Aachen. The route in France is highly recommended due to the tranquility, natural beauty, and authentic villages that sometimes resemble old Flemish ones. I have adjusted the route in France slightly to keep the stages approximately between 12 and 15 kilometers and also to consider available parking spots. We stay for a midweek each time and look for accommodation somewhere in the middle of the stages we plan to undertake. We park the car at the end point of the walk. Then we bike to the starting point. We pick up the bikes by car and then drive back to our accommodation, or make a visit somewhere along the way by car. The route in French Flanders is approximately 150 kilometers. We completed it in 3 midweek stays. GR128-2- Guînes --->Tournehem 2nd stage of the Flanders path GR128August 3, 2020 at 07:33 34km

We walked this stage in reverse for the same reason as stage 3: to avoid making the cycling challenge too demanding due to the elevation differences. So we start in the valley of the Hem, east of Licques. The Hem meanders in a hollow between 2 ridges, between 120 and 200 meters high, to flow into the Aa at Watten. This valley surprises with its peaceful idyllic nature away from the crowds, "Une valléé paisible" as they say here. There is still room for nature here. To climb out of the valley, you do have to pedal here and there. The walk starts at the remarkable chapel of St. Thérèse. At first, we follow the Hem and its tributary the Licques upstream. After the town of Licques, we steadily climb out of the valley to the Mont d’ Eclemy (171 meters) to reach a plateau. Then one last little climb to Le Ventus (185 meters high). The walk includes a path section, about 1/3 unpaved roads and roughly half quiet asphalt roads.

At the edge of the Boulonnais bocage and in the heart of the Licques region, the trail of the Thousand Hills winds through very green and varied landscapes, woods, fields, valleys... A guaranteed change of scenery! distance: 27 km (difficult)departure: Château de Colembert
