Two huts and summits, several lakes and a lot of screeFont-Romeu in the Cerdagne, Formiguères in Capcir: popular summer retreats since ancient times, also often visited in winter since the start of regular lift skiing. Accordingly, the places and landscape look like this. Unfortunately, the Calmasella chairlift no longer allows hikers to get past the slopes as quickly as possible. However, in the scree slopes of the small and large Péric, we would almost be glad for minimal tourist infrastructure again. We fully enjoy the silence, the fresh air, and the view over the Catalan Pyrenees.

A spectacular high-altitude stage from refuge to refugeWith the Refuge des Bouillouses as today’s destination, the lowest point of today’s stage is still just under 2,000 m above sea level. Today’s trail leads us through a correspondingly rocky and stony high-mountain landscape. We’ll have to cross two high passes, each offering breathtaking views, which—surprisingly—pose little difficulty despite their impressive elevation. With the first crossing over the Coll de Coma d’Anyell (2,470 m), we’ll officially enter the Pyrénées Orientales. The Mediterranean Sea, the destination of our Pyrenees crossing, is thus drawing ever closer. But first, we’ll take a break at the Refuge des Bouillouses. The view of the reservoir is almost as beautiful as the view of the sea.
