Hiking dream: The Saalachtal High Trail
A high-altitude trail straight out of a picture book: gentle, panoramic and wonderful to walk. This is how the Saalachtaler Höhenweg presents itself. And let's be honest, with such a wonderful high-altitude trail, you'll be happy to take the cable car to extend your time on the mountain enjoying the views. The high-altitude trail is definitely one of the highlights in the Saalfelden Leogang region.
From the Asitzbahn mountain station, you even have two options for your hike. The Höhenweg West leads you along fantastic hiking trails in the direction of the striking Spielberghorn and through the Schwarzleotal back to Leogang.
The Höhenweg Ost runs in the direction of the Saalachtal valley across beautiful meadows and through peaceful forests. This variant runs outside the ski area, where many mountain bikers are out and about in summer, and thus offers a little more peace and seclusion. The descent can be shortened in summer with a ride on the summer toboggan run from the Huggenbergalm (closed in fall).
TIP: In autumn, the Höhenweg shows its most beautiful side with its special colorful splendor!
Tours in the Leoganger Steinberge
In contrast to the gentle Grasberge mountains, the Leoganger Steinberge are rugged and wild. At first glance, they are reserved for those with alpine experience. However, there are also hikes here that are possible without excessive fitness or climbing skills. They may not take you to the summits, but they will take you to other beautiful destinations.
The hike to the Birnbachloch is a really exciting undertaking. A well-secured hiking trail leads over 400 meters up to the Birnbachloch natural monument. There is a spring in the cave from which large quantities of water flow, especially when the snow melts. Nearby is the Birnbach Glacier, the lowest glacier in Central Europe.
The tour to the Lettlkaser Hütte is characterized by very varied paths and great views of the mountains and the Saalfelden basin. After a hearty snack at the hut, anyone in good physical condition can continue the hike to the Passauer Hütte.
