Hikes in Lazio

Yesterday (14.11.24) I did the route from Amelia to Orte (and I walked on from there to Orte Scalo station-another brisk 45 mins, though buses are available). It's a lovely route, largely off road with good airy tracks. I knew the route crossed the Rio river but I didn't realise the crossing was a ford. That's OK, of course, for an experienced walker which I am (though 76). But when I got to the ford I found it in poor condition and with a stout fence erected on the opposite bank. I took off my boots and socks and rolled up my trousers and crossed safely. The water was bloody freezing and the far bank was muddy. I climbed the fence OK and dried off and continued- you have been warned.
