Explore the nature around Kriebstein while hiking

When it comes to hiking, the Leipzig region has a lot to offer. You can enjoy a particularly wide range of hikes here. One of the most popular routes is the circular trail around the Kriebstein Dam. It is 7 kilometres long and will take you 2 hours to complete. Along the way you can enjoy views of the wild and romantic Zschopau and the dam wall at the dam. You can cross the reservoir with the help of a ferry.

If you are up to a difficult route, you should consider hikes such as the trail around the Kriebstein dam. The tour takes you into a wild water landscape and has a considerable length of 19 kilometres. Be prepared for a hike of at least 5 hours - as you will also be climbing around 400 metres of altitude, you should bring comfortable and sturdy shoes. On this route you will also pass important sights such as Kriebstein Castle and the Old Robber Baron's Castle.

Discover places steeped in history on relaxed hiking tours

You don't necessarily have to go on challenging hikes in Kriebstein. There are also hiking trails on which you can explore the surroundings in a relaxed way. This category includes the Luther Trail Saxony, which runs from Waldheim to Kriebstein, among other places. You walk along the banks of the Zschopau River, enjoying a picturesque view of Kriebstein Castle and the town of Waldheim. The trail is only 4.6 kilometres long, so it will only take you 1.5 hours.

One of the slightly longer stages, but a relatively flat hike, leads from Kriebstein to Mittweida. The 17-kilometre route begins at Kriebstein Castle. Long stretches take you through the forests of the region and the Sächsische Burgenland. You will also walk along small village streets, where you can marvel at the half-timbered buildings in the surrounding area. The Lochmühle is definitely worth a look. The town of Mittweida marks the end of the tour.

Getting to know the culture of Kriebstein

Kriebstein looks back on an eventful past. Therefore, there are still numerous natural and cultural monuments in the municipality. If you want to spend a day off the beaten track, this is the place for you. If you are interested in history, you shouldn't miss Kriebstein Castle - it is, after all, Saxony's most beautiful knight's castle. If you are also a fan of natural monuments, you should take a detour to the Zschopau Valley. In the Middle Ages, the river served as a transport route, which is why you will find numerous castles there. Hikes are definitely worthwhile here.

Another important historical building is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Nicholas. It was consecrated in its present form in 1864 - but it still contains elements from the 18th century. If you want to be active off the beaten track, you can walk around the reservoir at Kriebstein.

Traumhafter Rundweg!
