This is the nicest and most interesting route over the Epprechtstein summit. It runs mostly along the "quarry path" with information boards about granite mining. The summit with castle ruins and top view is crossed on narrow paths and steps. At the start and end of the route, we can also visit the interesting granite labyrinth and stop at the Gasthaus Waldschmiede with a beautiful beer garden.

Those hiking on the Franconian Mountain Trail will be captivated by the romance of Franconian landscapes, which Eichendorff already dedicated one of his most beautiful poems to. But the route also offers hiking experiences expected from summit climbs and sporting hikes.

On Großer Waldstein, the remains of two castles await us. The older eastern one dates from the 12th century and was destroyed around 1430. The western one, the so-called Red Castle from the 14th century, was destroyed in the 16th century. A pavilion on the bowl rock offers a comprehensive view with an orientation board.

High on the Epprechtstein in the Fichtelgebirge, the ruins of the once proud Epprechtstein castle from the 12th century tower. From its viewing platform, you are offered a magnificent panoramic view. Further down at Epprechtstein, you will find plenty of small and really large quarries. In addition, there are some lovingly designed information stations on the topic of stone mining and other interesting little highlights like a powder magazine or a shelter that workers used when blasting was carried out at the quarry.

Super Tour: abwechslungsreich, viele naturbelassene Wege, Burgruine!
