Loop in the border park with dunes, forest and heathThe Kalmthout Heath stretches along the border with the Netherlands. This largest heath area in Belgium, located at the gates of Antwerp, is especially a paradise for hikers during the heath bloom in August. This cross-border area is marketed as an international nature park with the label "Grenspark," while the Dutch part is additionally designated as a national park. This circular hike leads through the Belgian part with the most beautiful heath and moor areas of the region, whereas the Dutch part is more forested. A wide view over the extensive heath is offered by the 25-meter-high Brandwehr tower. In Kalmthout, one often encounters the popular Flemish comic characters Suske en Wiske, whose creator once lived here.
