Although the municipality of Ischgl is best known for skiing, the town in the Paznaun Valley is also worth a visit in summer. In the surrounding mountains, which belong to the Verwall, the Silvretta and the Samnaun group, hiking is excellent. The mountain railways, which take you up one level, are also helpful. In addition to panoramic peaks, there are also numerous huts and mountain lakes to visit.

Ischgl: The hiker's paradise for the whole family
The attribute versatile describes the hiking area around Ischgl quite well. The location in the Paznaun valley between Verwall and Silvretta makes tours with many metres of altitude possible, for which a good level of fitness is required. Those who prefer a more leisurely pace will also find beautiful hikes on the valley floor. Thanks to the cable cars, you can also reach higher altitudes without too much effort.
These three hikes are not very strenuous and technically easy, which is why they are also suitable for children:
- On the valley floor, the leisurely hike from Mathon to Galtür is a good choice. The Rückweg is either on foot or by bus.
- The Ischgl Adventure Trail is a not too long hike that offers many exciting discoveries along the way. It goes through the Kitzloch and past two lakes. You can take the cable car back down to the valley.
- From the middle station of the Silvretta cable car, you can reach the Schwarzwasser and Pardatschersee lakes in a short hike.
Tip: Round hike to the mountain lake
Ischgl and Paznaun are known for their many beautiful mountain lakes. One of them is the Berglisee, which can be reached on a moderately difficult hiking tour. The idyllic lake is a true place of power and invites you to linger. There is also the possibility of a barbecue. A dip in the lake refreshes and gives you energy for the way back.

Challenging hikes around Ischgl
The mountains around Ischgl are high and you need to be in good shape to reach the panoramic peaks from the valley. The reward comes in the form of brilliant views of the Paznaun Alps and as far as Galtür and Kappl. An alpine mountain hike that will certainly remain in your memory is the one to the Rauhen Kopf (2478 m). A detour to the idyllic mountain lake is also possible, but makes the demanding hike even longer.
The Verwall is enthroned on the opposite side of the valley. The Verwall is much quieter and wilder and is much appreciated by nature lovers. A long hike with around 1000 metres of altitude leads up to the Madleinsee, from where there are further destinations, such as the Doppelseescharte.
Hikes to huts around Ischgl
A stop at a hut is simply part of hiking. Fortunately, there are a number of inviting huts around Ischgl that are a pleasure to visit.
One of these huts is the Friedrichshafener Hütte in the Verwall. From Mathon, you can reach the hut, which is known for its good cuisine, either via the road or via a shorter but steeper hiking trail. From the hut you can also reach the Sonnenkogel, a peak with a great view.

The Heidelberger Hütte is located in the Fimba Valley. The hut is actually already on Swiss territory, but is supplied from Ischgl. As a day hike, the way from Ischgl to the hut and back is quite long. The hut is usually visited in conjunction with a crossing in the direction of Scuol and then you also enjoy a meal there. The hut is also a good base for several days, as there are beautiful day hikes all around.
