From Tiefenstein near Mix Market through the forest to Herborn to the kindergarten

From the medieval Wildenburg Castle, challenging trails lead to the Mörschieder Burr rock formation. The view sweeps far into the distance across the mighty Rosselhalde. The trail then winds through an old forest to Herborn and past Veitsrodt to the Historic Weiherschleife in the Idar neighborhood. There, the processing of gemstones is impressively demonstrated. Shortly before the Ziegelhütte, the original route of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig described here branches off from the extension signposted in 2014, which leads via Regulshausen, past the Oberstein neighborhood, to Boppard.▶ From Kempfeld, you can reach the trail via a 2-km-long access path at Wildenburg. From the parking lots below Wildenburg 01, follow an asphalt path past the entrance to the wildlife park and the castle restaurant. Turn left through the stone castle gate toward the castle tower, then right onto a trail and over the Wildenburger Kopf. First, we pass the cistern, then the Hexentanzplatz, and follow the Felsenweg. It leads along the upper edge of the Mörschieder Burr 02, offering magnificent views—a natural boulder field of Taunus quartzite formed by the weathering of the surrounding softer rock. At the end of the boulder field, turn right downhill toward a forest road and then right again. Take the next cross-path to the right. Pass a rest area with a shelter. Take the next fork to the left and immediately turn right onto a trail. Cross a forest road, turn right onto a trail, and continue straight ahead for 500 m parallel to the forest road. Then the trail turns left. Head to the edge of the forest at the Herborn water tank and turn left. Just before the K 21, turn right and walk through a wooded area to a farm road. Walk parallel to the road through the open countryside toward Herborn 03. At the multipurpose hall, cross the road, go across the parking lot, and turn left onto a meadow path. Cross the L 175, then walk parallel to the road to the parking lot at the Stone Guest Book. Turn left into the forest, passing the stones with nameplates of prominent guests of the German Gemstone Route, to an asphalt path, then turn left. Head downhill along the Vollmersbach stream, past a fishing pond, then turn left onto a trail and head uphill. Cross a hilltop and turn left down a dirt road. Pass a sensory bench and continue to a intersection. Turn right here. (To continue straight toward Boppard via Oberstein, go straight ahead.) Cross the L 175 and follow the road to the Ziegelhütte. From there, head over the Hahnenberg, past the Andreasbrunnen, and over the Unterstberg to the Historic Weiherschleife 05 in the Idar district.
