For the best view in the Franconian Lake DistrictThe Heidecker Schlossberg is located roughly in the middle between Rothsee and Brombachsee and is probably the most beautiful viewpoint in the Franconian Lake District. From its summit plateau, the view extends to Nuremberg and the Franconian and Hersbruck Switzerland as well as into the Upper Palatinate Jura. To enjoy this wonderful view, we hike on the well-marked Heidecker Burgenweg via the Klausenkapelle and the village of Rudletzholz to the town of Schlossberg. There we switch to the Schlossbergrunde, which takes us in a wide loop around the mountain. We finally return to Heideck via the Burgen- und Schlösser-Weg.

> From the fairgrounds in Heideck 01, we follow the “Heidecker Burgenweg” along Alleenstraße and through the “Ziegelmoos” as we leave the village. Orchard meadows line our path, and we arrive at the Klausen Chapel 02, which offers a view of the Franconian Alb. We continue along the trail to Rudletzholz 03. The “Gasthaus zu den Drei Linden” is the only place to stop for refreshments on this hike. Before reaching the end of the village, we keep to the right and continue left across the fields. At the next intersection, we turn right again and follow the “Heidecker Burgenweg” through the forest to Schlossberg. We cross the RH 21 and climb up to the left toward the church. The path behind it leads us to the Schlossberg viewpoint 04, where we can let our gaze wander over the Franconian and Upper Palatinate regions. We follow the path uphill to the former castle ruins. At the T-intersection, we turn left, then turn right again, and climb up the steep slope. We continue along the meadow until the path forks, at which point we turn right into the forest. After passing the transmission tower, we follow the intersecting path to the right. We pass a rest area where a clearing offers a view of Heideck and Kreuth Castle, and eventually reach a pavilion 05 via the gravel path. The view extends all the way to Lake Brombach. The trail continues to the left in an arc before winding through the forest in a wide right turn. The “Heidecker Burgenweg” turns left, but we follow the Schlossbergrunde trail to a T-intersection. Here we keep to the left again and turn right after about 200 meters. Our path leads uphill across a meadow and back into the forest. Soon we reach the familiar fork and turn left here. Another left, and we’re back on the Burgstall Plateau. Passing the church, we head back to the RH 21 and turn left. Once again, we keep slightly to the left and now follow the “Burgen- und Schlösserweg” trail markers. This leads us to the hamlet of Rambach, which we cross straight through. Through orchard meadows, we return to Heideck and follow Rambacher Straße, Schlossberg Straße, and Alleestraße back to the Heideck 01 fairgrounds.
