Ways up the Brocken
The magical mountain peak is part of the Harz National Park and lies in the middle of the park's core zone. For this reason, public transport is not permitted. Although the Brocken road leads from Schierke to the summit, it can only be used with a special permit. Some carters offer covered wagon rides from Schierke to the Brocken. The second way to travel to the Brocken is on the Brocken Railway, which belongs to the Harz Narrow Gauge Railway (HSB).
