> Our hike begins at the P201 hiking parking lot, located on the outskirts of Gosberg heading toward Pappendorf. Here, there is a helpful information board for the “Striegistäler Hiking Area,” where we can find ideas for other hikes. We follow the two marked circular hiking trails—walking downhill along the road and then turning left between the buildings of the former Gosberg Mill. After crossing the Langhennersdorfer Bach—which flows into the Große Striegis at the Gosberg Mill—the marked loop trails split. We follow the “Großer Rundwanderweg Lichtenstein,” marked with a “blue cross,” to the right. We can also use the “red bar” as a guide. We’ll climb the broad ridge between the Langhennersdorfer Bach and the Große Striegis and then follow the wonderful trail through the rocky river valley. At the bridge by the Heumühle 02, the “Große Rundwanderweg Lichtenstein,” marked with a “blue cross,” turns left. We continue straight ahead on the “Striegistalweg” toward “Riechberg 5.4 km” (“red bar”). Crossing the Paul-Naumann Bridge 03, we cross the Große Striegis for the first time and stay on the trail close to the river. We soon reach the former Neu-Heumühle. Starting in 1954, the site of the former spinning mill housed a children’s summer camp, which was converted into a residential center for asylum seekers in 1994. In 2005, the buildings were demolished after sustaining significant damage during the floods of August 2002. The dilapidated “shelters” that now stand here are no better a sight. So we hike briskly along the “red bar” and “green triangle” trail markers. After passing a rest area, we have to be careful, as a signpost for the Teufelskanzel is poorly placed. We have to cross the bridge and continue along the Große Striegis. A short distance before the former Wiesenmühle inn, we turn left (“Heumühle Circular Trail/Teufelskanzel Circular Trail”—“green/yellow triangle”). We can’t miss the entrance to the Döring Erbstolln 04. We cross the small bridge, take a peek into the tunnel, and climb the steps up to the little hut used by the Riechberger Bergbauverein Striegistal e. V. We continue along the loop trails, turning left once and then immediately right. After a short climb, we reach the Teufelskanzel 05, which is secured with a railing. Here we can take a break and enjoy the view. The water tower on the Wäscheberg rises above the Striegistal (Tour 24). After our break, we’ll need to use our judgment. There are no trail markers. First, we walk carefully along the edge of the cliff—danger of falling! Then we stay on the edge of the slope. Important: Don’t go too far to the right (dangerous steep terrain) or too far to the left (forest edge)—always stay “in the middle” of the forest! This way, we’ll soon find a clearer trail and cross the stream that has carved out a side valley of the Striegis. Shortly afterward, we reach the edge of the forest. There’s only a faint trail here because, over the years, farmland has been expanded closer and closer to the forest. By following the forest edge, we can’t go wrong. Near a copse, we come across the trail from Wäscheberg06, which we’ll be using during Tour 24. Those who choose the return route described in the box will walk uphill through fields and meadows. All other hikers will walk downhill through the forest to the stone bridge near the Hammermühle—see Tour 24. The buildings of the Hammermühle were destroyed by the floods in August 2002 and subsequently demolished. The “Striegistal-Bote” published an interesting article in 2005, which can be read at www.naturheimat.de/mittelsachsen. From the stone bridge, we walk back a few meters and immediately take the “Striegistalweg” toward “Mobendorf 2.5 km” (“red bar”). We come to the former Wiesenmühle restaurant and hike along the familiar route to the Paul-Naumann Bridge 03 and the bridge at the Heumühle 02.If you’d like, you can follow the “Großer Rundwanderweg Lichtenstein” (“blue cross”) from here and return to the starting point via a scenic ridge. However, on this roughly 2 km longer route, you’ll be walking almost entirely on asphalt. The well-known route to the P2 hiking parking lot 01 is easier on the body.
