Vast beech forests on the slopes of the Hoher Stern and scenic stretches of trail connect the idyllic town of Bremen with the picturesque village of Lenders.▶ From the BremenChurch01, dedicated to the two patron saints St. Sturmius and St. Boniface, we follow the half-timbered main street through town uphill. After 1.2 km, we turn right onto a dirt road (marked EH = Eisenach – Eisenacher Haus; scallop shell) uphill. Near apillar02 with an EH marker before a long right-hand curve, our route turns left onto a trail. This scenic path soon reaches aseating area03, where we cross a farm road. The forest trail passes theWartburgblick04, where, with a bit of luck, you can catch a glimpse of Eisenach’s most famous landmark. A short while later, hiking downhill, we reachLenders05. A brief detour is worthwhile before continuing the hike uphill along the road. Hiking steeply uphill, we ignore the turnoff for the pilgrimage route under a power line. A few steps further on, at the signpost on thehill06, we turn right onto the main West–East Trail 1 and, after just 200 m, turn left onto a forest path (red triangle). The sea of boulders on the left explains the somewhat bumpy terrain. A memorial stone by the side of the trail commemorates the mysterious coincidence of a fatal hunting accident and a plane crash at the very same spot. A short while later, we pass the lovingly furnished GeisaerWaldhäuschen07 on the Bornwiese (unmanned). The original building fell victim to the GDR’s border security mania in the 1970s and was demolished. The new building was inaugurated in 1998. About 1 km further on, we turn left downhill at a fork and soon continue straight ahead across the “Frühstückskuchenplatz” (mountain shelter). At two T-junctions in quick succession, we continue straight ahead until we finally reach a signpostedintersection08 in a valley. Here, our route veers right towardBremen01, which we reach after a steep descent.
