For regular tourists, the tri-border point is only accessible from the Norwegian side. At the edge of the Øvre Pasvik National Park, it goes from the parking lot through forest and moorland to the well-known stone cairn with the border stone pyramid. You walk directly along the Norwegian-Russian border, but beware: NO crossing of this border, not even the smallest! The Russians are absolutely serious about this. The hike is not only defined by the beautiful moor landscapes but also by the feeling of constantly moving along the border between political systems. There are said to be brown bears in the area.

It goes to the northern tip of continental Europe located in the Arctic: Kapp Nordkinn, the northernmost point on the Kinnarodden peninsula, which is part of the Nordkinn Peninsula. Here you will definitely be alone and can enjoy breathtaking views of the Barents Sea. The route is an extraordinary experience, but extremely weather-dependent.

Because the North Cape is for everyone, the rock with the iron globe on an island is overrun by tourists, and often there's nothing to see up there except fog, we looked for a point on the Barents Sea that is roughly at the same latitude and still belongs to the European mainland. And I found it in the Norwegian Finnmark at Cape Norkinn with the Kinnarodden rock (71°08’1”N). The tours and clips found on the internet intensified our preparations for walking with luggage in mountainous terrain. Walking and balancing over stones could only be practiced and trained on our hikes shortly before in the Swedish national parks with their natural trails and paths over the barren and rocky fell areas. For optimal preparation, one should also have the right equipment (what is necessary, better to have and not need than ...) with the presumably real weight for the undertaking. The lightweight tent, sleeping bags, and thin sleeping pads only had volume, but hardly any weight. We could distribute them, along with the trekking food and dishes with stove, over 2 backpacks. The rain and spare clothing (also for cooler weather), towel, hygiene articles, headgear, neck scarf, balaclava, gloves, binoculars, sunglasses ... resulted in just under 12 kg for my wife and around 14 kg for me.

Kreuzfahrttouristen gibt es hier also keine. Also keine Plage.

The trail can be a bit challenging in the fog. Be aware, the weather can rapidly change and it can be then difficult to find your way back. Take a good pair of shoes and waterproof clothes.

Super Tour!
