Discover the breathtaking hikes in Euboea, Greece's second-largest island. From easy trails for beginners to challenging routes for professionals, there is something for everyone in this diverse and scenic destination.
Near the Moni Metamorfosis Sotiros monastery, there is an old monastery ruin on a summit. The climb is worthwhile - the view from above is magnificent.
The tour is recommended in spring or autumn, not in the summer heat. You should have good fitness. It is easy but exhausting.
Take enough water and provisions with you and keep checking the weather regularly! (Fully charged phone battery). Google Maps is not very helpful for finding the way!
The tour starts at the fountain in Chora.
We followed the B2 signs, or the faded red signs with the number 2. Sometimes they do not show the way very clearly.
At the top, we then changed our minds to escape the thunderstorm in the mountains. We actually wanted to continue on the number 2 path over the mountains back to Chora, which would have been much nicer than the way along the road.
However, we then went down to the road and followed the road back to Chora, and then back up to the fountain.
You constantly have a breathtaking view of Chora. It is worth turning back now and then. You pass some goat or sheep pens guarded by barking dogs. We had to go through some fence gates, met a very tame donkey and a cute puppy who accompanied us for a while. Goats crossed our path.
The area is very idyllic, wonderfully beautiful and invites you to take photos. We enjoyed it very much, although it also rained again and again.
Great tour through very arid landscape and very rocky track. We did not make it to the light house, took too long. Don’t try this in summer, too hot. Wear long trousers for the low bush with thorns and good hiking shoes. Take plenty of water.
From the Chora, the path leads into an idyllic small valley. Shortly afterwards, one ascends through the wonderful pine forests on the flank of Olymbos to the dreamy chapel of Agios Nikolaos. Further information:www.wandern-in-griechenland.ch
