Mosel Bends, Historic Sites, and the Sleeping Beauty of the MoselThis circular tour will delight Mosel enthusiasts. Between Cochem and Bremm, the Mosel flows in several distinctive loops, also known as Mosel bends. The path starts in Ernst at the Church of St. Salvator, through the historic town and across the Mosel bridge, we arrive in the beautiful town of Bruttig-Fankel. The route then leads over a challenging path. However, we are rewarded with magnificent panoramic views before reaching Beilstein, also known as the "Sleeping Beauty of the Mosel." The town, with its picturesque narrow streets and flower-decorated half-timbered houses, is considered by many to be the most beautiful on the Mosel. A village like a movie set. Indeed, famous actors such as Heinz Rühmann, Willy Millowitsch, Curd Jürgens, and Maria Schell have already filmed on the famous 110-step monastery staircase. A visit to the Carmelite Church of St. Joseph with its Black Madonna or the Tenancy Cellar, an ancient wine cellar at the marketplace, is definitely worthwhile. Above Beilstein is Metternich Castle. The ruin, which offers a magical view of Beilstein and the Mosel, also served as a film location. We cross the Mosel by ferry and continue to the historic town of Ellenz, along a narrow forest path into the Sterbach valley and towards the end of the tour to the Bruttiger Götterlay, with a wonderful view of the Mosel and Bruttig-Fankel.

For others, it might be just another ordinary hike, but for us it’s always a journey back to our childhood and youth, to the early years of our hikes together. The trail starts at Ebernach Abbey, leads through the Ebernacher Bachtal valley up to the hilltop, across to a viewpoint overlooking the Moselle, and from there down to Ernst and back through the Moselle Valley to the starting point. What makes this trail so appealing? The Bachtal valley! The view of the Moselle! In perhaps as little as 14 days, the red vineyard peach trees will be in bloom along the path from Ernst to Ebernach. For us, however, it’s the search for a daphne. We’ve known its location for many, many years, but we haven’t seen it in the last two years. Forestry work has taken its toll—trunks were lying on top of it—but it survived!

Come with us and wander through the forests above the wine village of Ernst ... feel the  "pure nature" and  enjoy the  extraordinary flora and fauna amidst the wine-influenced landscape and breathtaking views from the heights down into the Moselle Valley. It will be a nice  round with great views and resting places ... just relax. Hike with Nicky to the viewpoints  "Beautiful View"  and  "Singer's View"  ...  enjoy the great views of Ernst from there.

Alles dabei, was das Wanderherz höher schlagen läßt.
