Opsahlteiet – Mistberget – Observation Tower Over Lake Mjøsa

The forested Mistberg (663 m) on Lake Mjøsa is visible from almost anywhere in the Romerike region thanks to its radio tower; trails and paths lead from all directions to the observation tower at the summit. ▶ From the Opsahlteiet 01 parking area in the woods near the Oppsal farm on Route 510, directional signs for “Mistbergtårnet” and blue paint marks guide you uphill along an unpaved forest road. At the clearing with the Åsen 02 house, the blue markings veer diagonally to the right onto a hillside trail (easier alternative: follow the forest road straight ahead and turn right at the first fork), which winds upward through the coniferous forest, crosses clearings, soon becomes steeper, and finally intersects Forest Road 03 —the route mentioned as a more comfortable alternative. After a short, relatively flat stretch, the trail climbs again and leads to the rest hut at the Mistbergtårnet observation tower on Mistberget 04. A shelter invites you to take a break, and there is a barbecue area. Wheelchair users, mountain bikers, and hikers with strollers can reach the mountain from the north via the factory road, which is closed to public traffic; the parking lot at the start of the factory road is called Doknesvangen and lies at 425 m, nearly 150 meters higher in elevation than the Opsahlteidet parking area; it is accessible via Route 180. On the second weekend of September, the Mistbergs venner (Friends of Mistberg) association hosts Mistberg Day, featuring group hikes and entertainment at the summit hut. At the cliff edge west of the mountain, overlooking the Kleivdalen valley, there is another viewpoint called Rauknerten: benches invite you to enjoy the view. From the observation tower, follow the same path as on the ascent down the south slope for a short distance, and at the fork marked “rett ned” (direct descent), continue straight ahead. The trail, which is quite steep in places, winds its way down through the forest, and as more and more clearings open up, it’s not far to Forest Road 05. While the forest road leads to the right toward the nearby Lensmannsvangen forest parking lot—another starting point for climbing Mistberget—we hike down to the left. The trail descends to the well-known Åsen 02 house and soon reaches the starting point Opsahlteiet 01 on Road 150 again.
