The Muggendorf west loop on the Franz-Josef-Kaiser path starts below Neideck in the hamlet "Kingdom" Haag. Past the imposing castle ruins, it continues up to the Jura plateau – first through the forest, then with wide views over meadows and fields to Birkenreuth, known for its water tower. Towards Ebermannstadt and the Wiesent valley lies the – Franconian – Zuckerhut along the route, a few meters higher than its namesake in Rio ;)

The Muggendorf east loop on the Franz-Josef-Kaiser-Weg leads – after completing the valley path and the subsequent ascent to Burggaillenreuth – in gentle ups and downs through enchanting, rock-strewn mixed forest to the legendary Druidenhain. Then it continues to Trainmeusel, where the robber knight Eppelein is said to have stayed. Passing the only Jura spring far and wide, we approach the Neideck castle ruins virtually from behind, where we leave our stage path, descend on a short path into the Wiesent valley, and comfortably return to Muggendorf on a sunny valley path.
