Rocky paths and caves over DéniaThe Montgó mountain range dominates with its impressive, orange-reddish shimmering rock faces the northern Costa Blanca between Dénia and Xàbia. Since 1987, 2118 hectares of the massif have been protected as a nature park. No less than 650 plant species, including many endemic species, are counted here. Since 1994, the species-rich waters around the Cap de Sant Antoni are also under nature protection.

This huge mountain acts as a physical and climatic barrier between the two towns of Dénia and Jávea / Xàbia. At the eastern side Montgó ends at Cap San Antonio before plunging into the Mediterranean. There are numerous hikes of varying difficulty on and around Montgó. The trail I describe here is long and to complete it all in one day would require transfer from the end (Jesus Pobre side) back to the start at Dénia.

Por otro lado, Calpe cuenta con el Peñón d'Ifach como punto emblemático para los excursionistas más intrépidos. La subida hasta su cima ofrece unas vistas inigualables tanto hacia tierra firme como sobre el Mar Mediterráneo.

    Very nice tour for spring and autumn. Magnificent view from the top. We had 3:20 hours up and down without the well deserved break. Strong boots are recommended.

    There is no clear path from the Denia Cross to the steap part just below the Cap Gros del Montg. So it is better to stay on the main path to the top, or go up and down the same path to the Denia Cross.

    Richtig schöner Trail. Hin und wieder muss man auch mal Hand anlegen. Wir sind die Route andersherum gelaufen, dadurch haben wir den Anstieg morgens im kühlen gehabt... sind den Grat gegangen, der Trail ist da teilweise nicht zu erkennen, aber man kann sich seinen Weg suchen

    Ein echter Klassiker an der Costa Blanca mit herrlichen Ausblicken. Aber für normalsportliche Gelegenheitswanderer auf keinen Fall “leicht”! Der Anstieg ist durchaus anstrengend, teilweise auch etwas exponiert, ebenso der Abstieg durch den Raco del Bou. Wer nicht trittsicher und nicht schwindelfrei ist hat hier keinen Spaß. Wenn Wolken aufziehen ist die Sicht oben gleich null, es kommt immer wieder vor dass die Leute im unwegsamen Gelände dann die Orientierung verlieren. Ich wohne am Fuß des Berges in Dénia und bekomme das jedesmal mit wenn das Rote Kreuz wieder mal ausrückt... Wie schon geschrieben kein Schatten, also genügend Wasser mitnehmen. Im Hochsommer deshalb nicht zu empfehlen.

    Schöne Wanderung, am Ende - zumindest mit Kind auf dem Rücken - recht anspruchsvoll, besonders der Abstieg. Genügend Wasser und Sonnenschutz mitnehmen, es gibt kaum Schattenplätze. Festes Schuhwerk ist angebracht.
