A peaceful hike through the Bosco LuganeseAbove the Val d’Agno—which had to sacrifice its flat valley floor for the Lugano airport—runs a densely forested ridge from north to south known as the Bosco Luganese. This “Luganese Forest,” which features a high proportion of chestnut trees, is a year-round hiking destination, though fall is particularly well-suited for it: on the one hand, because of the great views we have from several vantage points up there; on the other, to gather the delicious chestnuts. At the end of our hike, a charming, typical Ticino village with winding alleys awaits usThe view from the highest point along the trail, San Bernardo (with a renovated 16th-century chapel), is magnificent. The small church of Santa Maria d’Iseo is worth a quick detour, though unfortunately it’s not accessible. A 1.5-km-long, signposted forest nature trail also begins at our starting point, explaining the trees and shrubs of the local forest.
