Along a wooded ridge to a magnificent vantage point Monte Cerreto offers a panoramic view (the Gulfs of Naples and Salerno, the Apennine mountain ranges, the Monti Lattari ridges, and coastal towns). The challenging trail to the summit follows a long, rocky ridge. After reaching Monte Cerreto, pleasant forest trails lead down to Ravello.

The Chiunzi Pass, located at an elevation of 656 meters, was already an important route through the Monti Lattari in ancient times. The Via delle Tramontane ran across it from the Amalfi Coast through the Tramonti Valley into the Nocera-Sarno Plain. In the Middle Ages, the Torre Orsini di Chiunzi was built to protect the strategically important pass and to serve as a customs station; the restaurant that was later added to it is now closed again. The first section of the tour follows the scenic ridge trail to Tuoro di Ceserano; the second section is characterized by the extensive chestnut groves along the small Colle Rassa ridge, which extends from the Chiunzi Pass into the upper Tramontana Valley, dividing it into two parts.> After a coffee at the Chiunzi Bar, you’ll begin the loop hike by taking the side road uphill from Valico di Chiunzi 01 toward the north. It leads to the Torre Orsini di Chiunzi, behind which the marked hiking trail begins. The trail climbs gently through low-lying woodland with plenty of broom and across clearings along the ridge up to the open hilltop with a magnificent 360° panorama 02. The view sweeps from Vesuvius across the densely populated Sarno Plain and the Gulf of Naples—including the island of Ischia—as well as the Tramonti Valley, nestled in the Monti Lattari, with the Santuario dell’Avvocata perched prominently on a terrace (see Tour 41).The trail then leads over another hill to the Tuoro di Ceserano pass 03, once again offering an unobstructed view of Vesuvius and the Tramonti Valley. At a wooden post, the trail—also marked in red and white—branches off to the left; you will now descend along this path. At first, the markings on the stones on the ground are easy to miss. From the wooden post, head 15 m to the left and downhill; then the trail turns east toward the transmission towers on Monte S. Angelo di Cava and crosses the karst slope diagonally, descending only slightly, past a single tree to the forest. There, you’ll once again hike along a beautiful trail, initially lined with plenty of broom, then through increasingly dense forest and a chestnut grove down to the road to Capitignano 04.Cross the road and continue straight ahead on the little-used road through chestnut groves along the small ridge of Colle Rassa. After passing the helicopter landing pad, you’ll soon reach the central cemetery of the municipality of Tramonti, situated in a panoramic location. The trail to Corsano branches off to the left 20 meters before the railing near a power pole and leads down the slope—in places somewhat more steeply—to the road near the church of Corsano 05. Here, you could turn right onto the side road to Polvica in 20 minutes (Tour 38). To the left, the route follows the side road past the bus turnaround and then straight ahead uphill to the scattered houses of Sofilciano 06.At the fork at the end the road, continue straight ahead up the narrow, stepped path toward the houses. The path then continues uphill through terraced fields and, at a right fork, continues straight ahead. Through a chestnut forest with a less well-maintained path, you’ll reach a crossroads; cross it and ascend on a path that is now well-maintained again through a chestnut grove. Toward the end, on a stairway, you’ll return to the starting point at the Chiunzi Pass 01, where you can stop for a bite to eat at the Ristorante Valico di Chiunzi.
The view from the terrace of Villa Rufolo is famous and calendar-worthy
