The Sentiero delle 5 Torri is a beautiful circular hike that from Chiavari allows you to reach the panoramic road of Leivi passing through countryside and olive groves. It follows ancient mule tracks now disused, restored and managed by the Pro Loco of Leivi. The path is named after the 5 towers found along the route and offers the chance to admire typical Ligurian landscapes. The Sentiero delle 5 Torri includes visits to four bell towers and a medieval tower. The first tower is part of the complex of the Church of San Tommaso del Curlo located in the municipality of Leivi. The second is the bell tower of the Church of San Bartolomeo, known for its particular churchyard. The third tower is the symbol of Leivi and is near the fourth tower, that of the Church of San Rufino. The last tower along the path is that of the Church of San Lorenzo.

Montallegro – Chiavari: From the Pilgrimage Church to the City of Arcades

From the Montallegro pilgrimage church, with its sweeping coastal panorama, you’ll hike along scenic hillside and ridge trails through holm oak and chestnut forests, and from Passo Anchetta, the trail descends steeply in places into the old town of Chiavari with its many arcades and elegant shops.> From the bus terminal, walk up the old holm oak-lined avenue to the pilgrimage church01. The hiking trails begin on the left behind the church: The one on the right leads down to Chiavari; always follow the trail marked with two red squares. After a few minutes, you’ll reach the Hotel-Restaurant Pellegrino with its wonderful outdoor dining area, one of the region’s most beautiful vantage points. The pleasant trail continues through an old holm oak forest. Shortly after the hillside trail reaches the ridge after about 30 minutes and narrows, the faintly marked trail turns left here 02 and immediately becomes a beautiful hillside path, briefly on the north side, then back on the south side of the ridge. Slightly descending and offering beautiful views, the trail leads to the old Marian altar on La Colla03. There, take the path on the right—which is now clearly marked—first ascending slightly, then following the ridge and descending again to the small road at Passo Anchetta04. Continue straight ahead on the small road toward the southeast, climbing slightly once more until you reach a right-hand hairpin bend after 10 minutes; here, a path leading downhill branches off to the left. At first, the path descends gently through holm oak and chestnut forests; after 5 minutes, take the left fork, followed by a steep descent to a Boy Scout hut. Then the path descends more gently again to the Case Costa estate05, a water source. Continue gently downhill on a beautiful trail; Chiavari soon comes into view, and the highway is clearly audible. At the end of a massive stone wall, take the two flights of stairs down to the right, walk almost level through the olive grove, then descend the stairway to the church at Maxena06. Now walk past the church on the left and back onto a staircase path, then briefly along an asphalt road and continue on a concrete/staircase path down the gradually more densely populated slope to the road; turn left onto this road and continue to the Church of San Pier di Canne07. To the train station/center of Chiavari08, take the city bus or walk for 20 minutes, following the road the whole way.
