The hiking trails in the Chemnitz region, especially in the wooded areas, are relatively flat and have no steep inclines. On the Way of St. James to Chemnitz
The Way of St. James in Saxony is just under 300 kilometres long and runs along the medieval Franconian road from Bautzen to Hof, where it joins the Upper Franconian Way of St. James to Nürenberg. Even if you don't want to hike all the way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, the paths of the Way of St. James are ideal for extensive hikes in the region.
The Sächsischer Jakobsweg Flöha-Chemnitz stage runs over a length of 15.3 km, the destination being St. John's Church in the centre of Chemnitz. The first kilometres go steadily uphill, then the route runs without any major ascents or descents along forest paths, farm tracks and roads. At the highest point of the tour, the magnificent view into the Zschopau valley and in the direction of Chemnitz up to the Rochlitzer Berg is inspiring. Especially in summer, the section through the Zeisigwald forest is a pleasant way to cool off.
Tip: On the way, hikers can stop for refreshments at the Heide- and Zeisigwaldschänke.

- Around the moated castle of Klaffenbach - easy, just under 5 km, without any inclines, the circular path leads from the moated castle into the forest to the alluvial pond, in the middle there is a shortcut. Next to the castle you will find museums, exhibitions and a place to stop for refreshments.
- Walker's Route - Industrial Culture - easy route of just over 6 km in length, the walk takes you past exciting contemporary witnesses of industrial culture through the well-kept cityscape.
- Hiking tour between Heide - and Zeisigwaldschänke - just under 10 km long round without special requirements, on the outskirts of Chemnitz it goes through a historically rich area, which is now reserved for recreation seekers, with a nice playground at the Forststraße and refreshment facilities.
- Lohse-Uhlig-Steig – somewhat longer walk through the idyllic Sternmühlental with a break at the Sternmühle and through the Black Forest with magnificent views of Chemnitz and towards the Erzgebirge.
