The western foothills of the Petit Luberon surprise visitors with their rugged beauty. Rugged cliffs and hidden valleys crisscross the uninhabited mountain landscape.> Parking Lot01 is a popular destination. We walk past picnic areas toward the rocky cliff face ahead of us to the “Source de Boulon”02. Beyond the spring—which flows only intermittently—the yellow trail markers lead us steeply uphill. In a left turn, we reach a deeply incised, forested side valley before the trail veers right, uphill, cutting through a steep cliff face. Before reaching a scree field, we turn left and continue uphill. From a rocky ledge, we can enjoy the fantastic view far across the plain toward the Alpilles. Through a deeply incised valley and across a rocky ridge, the trail continues to gain elevation. We walk a short distance on a slight downhill slope before, after a few steep climbing sections, we pass through the small Castelas Pass. A trail leads us downhill to the “Le Castelas”03 signpost, which points us in the direction of “Le Pin de Maillet.” Amid low-growing maquis with fragrant rosemary and thyme, we climb steeply uphill over rocky sections, using our hands for support. The yellow markings, several signposts, and numerous cairns guide us through boxwood trees to the “Le Pin de Maillet”04 signpost. We turn right onto the “Sentier Nature” toward “La Citerne.” Once there, we follow the signs for “Vidauque 4.1 km.” Passing a sheepfold, we enter a densely vegetated valley. The rocky path leads us a long way downhill through a gentle slope among holm oaks. The gorge narrows, and we find ourselves between high rock walls before a wider path joins ours from the left. We turn right and, behind a green barrier, come to the “Vidauque”05 signpost, where we head toward “Les Taillades.” For a short stretch, we climb steeply uphill and are rewarded with a magnificent view of Cavaillon. The path leads us slightly downhill to a fork. We keep to the left, cross a trail, and turn right onto a vehicle road. We then stay on the wide gravel road, passing cistern 77, and walk steeply downhill along a short, paved path. The signpost marked “Gorge de Badarel” directs us toward “Les Taillades”06. Before continuing on toward Boulon, we take a detour to the left toward the “Auberge des Carrières” and explore the old town center of Taillades. Definitely worth seeing: the church on the hill and the theater in the old quarry. Back at the signpost, we keep going straight ahead, past the Chapelle St-Gens. After the “Out of Town” sign, we turn right onto a gravel path and arrive at a parking lot with a tall pine tree. From there, it’s only about 300 m to the left, and we reach our starting point01.
