Let's let Casa Corra doze off and we hike up Monte Staffola on foot: we draw in the air with our finger the map of the territory where the reference point is the system of fortifications of the Terre di Canossa. Here is Matilda as she organizes her kingdom! Lowering the line of sight slightly, the hills have winding valleys that streak them and perched houses that dot them. It looks like a score where the hand of geography marks the rhythm and that of the living communities the melody. Walking in this score, the harmony of the landscape sings of the meaning of the wind, the elegance of a column, the smell of hay, the shot of a rifle, and a distant bellow.

If you go to the bottom of the valley, towards the mill that points to, besides the Magna Countess Matilda, another great protagonist responsible for the fate of these lands: water! Like a deity that on one side tears away and on the other caresses, in constant dialogue with the other elements. The reassuring sound of a stream and the deeper one of a waterfall reveal the "behind the scenes" of what is seen from above. The damp belly amid the hills is a natural sanctuary, with clay statues sculpted by the torrent, crayfish, and willows that know exactly how to stay close to such a powerful flow. Maybe it is all this energy, too much to conceive, that pushed prehistoric communities to build their shrines higher up...
