Along the longest natural beach of MallorcaEs Trenc has become a symbol of Mallorca's environmentalists. The plans for a large holiday resort on the fine sandy dream beach were already shelved when existing building permits were withdrawn following massive protests from the population. In 2017, Es Trenc was declared a nature park. The beach, especially popular among naturists, has not been a secret tip for a long time, but the beach walk is still beautiful.

Today we hike along the beautiful Es Trenc beach. The crystal-clear blue water fascinates us. We start in the town of Ses Covetes. Our tour ends in Colonia Sant Jordi. Those who want to extend the tour can walk to the marina in Colonia. There are many restaurants and cafes there. Along the beach, there are two nice beach bars. Afterwards, we return to the starting point the same way.

The 1.5-kilometer-long stretch of sand at Arenal de sa Ràpita and Platja d’es Trenc, which is nearly twice as long, are among the longest unspoiled beach paradises in Mallorca. They owe this to the passionate dedication of conservationists. Even though walking in the soft sand can sometimes be a bit of a struggle, it’s lovely to stroll along the shoreline—barefoot when the weather permits. A detour also offers surprising glimpses into the Salobrar de Campos wetland—a particularly memorable experience in the spring, when only a few strollers are out on the beaches, the fields behind them are in bloom, and the salt marshes are teeming with thousands of birds. During peak season, Platja d’es Trenc gets very crowded—often too crowded, to the point that the island government is already considering closing off certain sections.> Before the bridge on the eastern outskirts of Sa Ràpita01, we turn right alongside the Torrent toward the sandy beach of Arenal de sa Ràpita. We continue walking along the sea, past a restaurant and two bunkers (the restaurant can also be reached via a road between the dunes). After about 1 km, we reach the small settlement of Ses Covetes02. There, C/. des Murters leads past bars to the bus stop and to an access road branching off to the left, from which you turn right after a few steps toward Platja d’es Trenc. 0:30 hYou can now continue the hike along the more than 2.6 km long sandy beach all the way to Colònia de Sant Jordi. 40 minutes from Ses Covetes—passing a few more bunkers—you’ll reach a restaurant and a pump house, from which it’s worth taking a detour inland to the salt lakes of the Salobrar de Campos 03. The subsequent flat, rocky stretch of coastline is also very beautiful. It first leads to the “double bay” off the small island of Gavina. But be careful: the inviting sandy beaches of Es Peregons Petits and Es Peregons Grans are among the most dangerous on the island due to the unpredictable ocean currents that prevail here!The route continues to the Salines de s’Avall, which are still in use today, and to the hotels in Colònia de Sant Jordi04.
