Panoramic view to Florence The Quinseina di S. Elisabetta is a prominent corner post in the first high Alpine rise at the mouth of the Valle dell’Orco. In clear conditions, the summit offers immense views all the way to the Apennines and the Ligurian Alps. The unusual moraine belt of the Sierra near Ivrea stands out very clearly in the plain, with Lake Viverone sparkling in the distance. The view sweeps over the sea of houses of Turin to the Monviso. Furthermore, the distinctive peaks of the Ciamarella and the Gran Paradiso catch the eye. There is also a good deep view into the Orco Valley. Another plus point is the Alpe Pian Confier, a scenic grassy ridge just southwest of Pian del Lupo, accessible via the natural road towards Frassinetto. The Azienda Agricola offers its grounds there for camping for those who also want to consume in the alpine farm.

A beautiful hike in Piedmont with views of the Gran Paradiso massif. After driving up the narrow mountain road, you’ll reach the few parking spots available at a mountain meadow. After an initial ascent along a trail, a short section leads left along a wide path to a meadow ridge, which we follow all the way toward Quinseina di St. Elisabeth. There are several sections of easy boulder terrain, followed by a very steep final stretch to the summit. From here, follow the ridge to Punta Quinseina. From there, head to the unremarkable summit of Punta Quinseina Nord and back to the saddle. From here, follow a well-maintained trail downhill past dilapidated alpine huts until you reach a fork to the left. During the snowmelt season, it’s worth making a short detour and walking about 50 meters to the right to a mountain stream. Further along, the now significantly narrower trail crosses steep slopes. The trail passes numerous dilapidated alpine huts, some of which are likely still used as cattle pens. After a good 45 minutes, you’ll reach the ascent trail again at a huge cairn. Instead of taking the same descent route, you can also follow the scenic meadow ridge downhill, passing a power pole, until—after a short overgrown section—you reach a small mountain road. We follow the road to the left—which is closed due to a landslide—and arrive at the parking lot.
