Located in the middle of the Vorarlberg Alps, Bludenz offers mountain lovers a huge range of hikes of all difficulties. Even if the town itself is somewhat overshadowed by well-known tourist communities in the Montafon, a trip to Bludenz is worthwhile, as the surrounding mountains are ideal for extended hikes to the peaks of the Lechquellen Mountains. Great huts and a cable car to the Muttersberg round off the offer.

The Clever Tower of the Klostertal Valley This challenging, individualistic climb up one of the most magnificent peaks in the Lechquellengebirge, offering a breathtaking panoramic view, requires agility at the summit and a trained eye for the right handholds and footholds.

Panorama from Piz Buin to Säntis As inconspicuous as this "almost two-thousander" may seem, the Latschenschopf deserves the highest praise as a viewpoint mountain. Surrounded by the Ill, the Lutz, and the Marulbach, the Bludenz local mountain represents the westernmost corner of the Lechquellengebirge.

Where Three Mighty Mountain Ranges Meet Very close to the Brazer hamlets clustered on the sunny side of the Klostertals valley, three mighty mountain ranges converge . From the north, the forbidding walls of the Lechquellengebirge loom large, part of the Northern Limestone Alps. The valley gorge branching off into the Montafon separates the crystalline Verwall from the limestone Rätikon, both of which belong to the Central Alps. Amid this rugged landscape, picturesque pastures invite the leisurely traveler to take a tranquil little excursion.

Tough undertaking in the Faludriga - Nova nature reserve Our summit destination, which rises 1600 m above the Klostertal valley, takes its name from the right to hunt. Many a rank-and-fame mountain enriches the wide field of vision. Widderstein, Rote Wand and Kaltenberg, Fluchthorn and Piz Buin, Seehörner, Sulzfluh, Drei Türme and Drusenfluh as well as Zimba and Schesaplana are just a few of them.

Freiburger Hütte to Roggelskopf via Bergwälder Klostertal
recommended route Difficulty difficult

We start at the Freiburger Hütte on wide, well-developed paths towards Gwurfjoch (T3), up to the ridge that brings us to the Roggelskopf 2284 m (T4). On the ridge, the path becomes narrow and sure-footedness is required. For the ascent and descent to/from the Roggelskopf over secured and exposed paths, a head for heights and the use of hands for progress should also be a familiar friend. Afterwards, it becomes relaxed again and we reach the hunting lodge and Bergwälder Klostertal via a loop, then return to the Freiburger Hütte.
