Anyone interested in the famous Lötschberg Railway will find many information stations along the BLS Railway Adventure Trail on the northern ramp between Frutigen and Kandersteg, featuring fascinating details about the railway’s construction history. Arguably the most beautiful section of the trail leads from Mitholz up to the vertical limestone cliffs of the Fürtfluh high above the village of Kandergrund, where the railroad overcomes an elevation difference of nearly 300 meters via a double hairpin curve. The Kander Valley at the foot of the cliffs was buried by a massive rockslide 15,000 years ago; however, this geological catastrophe left behind a very special natural wonder: the Blausee. All these unique features can be experienced in a truly impressive way on a short circular hike.▶ From the parking lot in front of the municipal office in Kandergrund 01, cross at the crosswalk to reach the Altels Inn and follow the main road to the left (into the valley) until you turn right after 70 m (signposted “BKW”). Passing through the village of Innerkandergrund and crossing the nearby Kander Bridge, you’ll reach the Kandergrund Power Plant 02 (850 m), which opened in 1911; here, turn left toward “Blausee, Kandersteg.” You’ll pass the power plant’s pressure pipelines and then hike south through woods and meadows alongside the Kander. After 1.3 km, you’ll see the fish farm and the playground at Blausee 03 (887 m) across the river, accessible via a metal footbridge. Visitors to this crystal-clear natural wonder are asked to purchase an admission ticket at the main entrance—several short trails lead there from the restaurant through the nature park’s romantic boulder forest. 1:00 h. If you do not visit Blausee, continue hiking 500 m further up the valley on the gravel road alongside the Kander River, then turn left toward a bridge. On the other side, you’ll reach the main road; follow the sidewalk to the left for about 150 m to the parking lot at the Blausee main entrance (900 m)—this detour takes about 20 minutes. At the bus stop there, you’ll find an information sign for the green-marked railway hiking trail. From there, follow the sign for “Mitholz, Hemlige, Kandersteg” briefly uphill to a paved road, where you’ll continue hiking to the right. After passing through the Felsenburg Tunnels I and II on the Lötschberg line, turn left, go through the railroad underpass, and walk through the hamlet of Mitholz. Near the main road, turn left again (signposted “Undere Giesene, Oeschinensee”). Passing through two more railroad underpasses, you’ll reach Blausee-Mitholz 04 station (974 m), though no trains stop there anymore. 25 minutes. From there, go through the underpass to the front platform and turn right along it to a turnstile. Beyond that, the narrow Railway Adventure Trail leads to the left, past the 110-meter-long Tunnel III beneath the ruins of Felsenburg, continues below the tracks, and passes twice under the 76-meter-long Felsenburg Viaduct—which was “doubled” for the two-track expansion. At the next trail junction, continue straight ahead (signposted “Mitholz, Blausee, Kandergrund”) and hike alongside the railroad tracks to a rest area. After that, the Railway Adventure Trail passes under the Fürten Viaduct and climbs through the steep forested slopes above the cliff faces of the Fürtfluh. Finally, the trail descends steeply via sturdy metal stairs equipped with handrails, passing a tall support structure designed to secure the cliffs. This brings you down to the lower railroad right-of-way, next to which you’ll reach a road. Soon, you’ll go left under the railroad tracks and then immediately right into the hamlet of Bunderbach. There, turn left toward the church and you’ll soon return to the parking lot in front of the municipal administration building in Kandergrund 01. 1:00 h.

Einfache, schöne Wanderung mit toller Aussicht ins Kandertal. Der Blausee selber ist sehr touristisch. Aber wenn man die Spitzenzeiten meidet, geht es.
