The ascent from the pass and the further path along a broad mountain ridge initially runs along the border between the provinces of Almería and Granada. At the summit, a magnificent panoramic view awaits: to the south the Sierras de Gádor, Contraviesa, Lújar and on the horizon the Mediterranean Sea. To the west the mountain ranges Morrón del Hornillo, Morrón Sanjuanero, Morrón del Mediodía and behind them the eastern peaks of the Sierra Nevada. To the north the plains of the Marquesado, the Hoya de Guadix, the Sierra de Baza and in the background the Sierras Cazorla, Sagra and Segura. To the east the ridge line of the Sierra Nevada Almeriense with Cerro del Almirez in the foreground. During the research trip, I was fortunate to be able to observe a large herd of the light brown Andalusian ibex. Particularly impressive are the mighty horns, which can reach up to 75 cm long in the bucks. One more word about the Laguna Seca. After the end of the snowmelt and during longer dry periods, the lagoon dries out completely. So don't be disappointed if this happens.> At 01 Puerto de la Ragua, we leave the shelter on the left and climb steeply along a wooden fence. The path leads into a forest road and at a fork we choose the forest road half right. This leads slightly downhill. We leave out a path turning right. The summit we want to climb is now in front of us. For your information: The path branching off to the left and closed to mountain bikes is our way back. At the next fork, we keep half right and first climb up to the Refugio del Chullo and then continue to the summit of 02 El Chullo. The further path winds eastward over a mountain ridge, from which interesting, sculpture-like rock formations protrude. Behind a saddle begins the ascent to 03 Morrón del Chullo. During the subsequent descent, the path on sandy ground is not always easy to find; occasional stone piles help with orientation. Soon the lagoon in the valley appears. A path is barely recognizable anymore, so we orient ourselves on the widely visible forest road. On the other side of a small parking lot on the forest road, the trail continues above the 04 Laguna Seca. After reaching a height, the path turns left at a white-yellow marked wooden post. From now on, the hiking trail crosses the north-facing slopes of the mountain ridge, which we previously crossed in the opposite direction. After a fork, we choose the trail half right towards a stone house. We cross a small stream that springs from the Fuente de las Agüillas. Behind the Refugio El Toril and the hill lying beyond it, we meet a forest road, which we follow downhill to the edge of the forest. Here we do not continue right on the forest road but straight through the forest, where we come upon another 05 gravel road. On the left, our further hiking trail to the Puerto de la Ragua, 4.5 km away, is signposted. At the end of the shaded forest – at the information board – we ignore the path turning right and now follow the course of the forest road for a very long stretch until it turns into a path and ends at the outbound trail. Here we turn right and thus reach the start and finish point at 01 Puerto de la Ragua.
