The route (6 km) owes its name to the fact that much of it runs along the stream of the same name, on one hand, and, on the other, because the toponym "Marancinho" (Marãozinho) recalls Marão, one of the great references of the natural heritage of this region. It starts and ends next to the Church of Santa Maria de Gondar, which is part of the Romanesque Route. This route is mostly made on ancient paths and trails, including a beautiful stretch of the old Roman road that, through Amarante, connected Tongobriga, in Marco de Canaveses, to the rock sanctuary of Panóias, in Vila Real.

The route passes by an old section of Roman road, next to the Marancinho stream, where one can still observe a Roman footbridge over the stream and a few dozen meters of the road, supported, due to the slope of the terrain, by a sturdy retaining wall.
