Hiking to Celtic Sacrificial Stones and a Water Stone Hill after hill, rock after rock, forest and meadows – this is how one could briefly describe the landscape. But on every forest-covered hill, something different can be discovered: be it rock formations with carved sacrificial bowls said to originate from the Celts, a water stone with a circular water basin on a rock plateau, or a castle ruin. With a bit of curiosity and climbing skill, nothing stands in the way of enjoying the forest and rock experience.

Excursion to the hunting forest of the Princes of Thurn and Taxis In 1813, the "Fürstliche Thiergarten zu Regensburg" was established as a hunting and commercial forest. The fenced-in area covers 2800 hectares and rises above the Danube valley between Sulzbach a. d. Donau, Altenthann, Wiesent and Bach a. d. Donau. A gigantic forest area with clearings, ponds and streams as well as several forester's lodges and a hunting lodge. The game here are wild boar and red deer, which are the most common animals encountered by hikers. You have to be lucky to spot an otter or a lynx that has migrated from the Bohemian Forest. The tour starts at the idyllic Otterbach stream, leads over the fence into the hunting forest and ends with a stop at the Otterbachtal forest restaurant.

Idyllic stream valleys at the foot of the Vorderer Bavarian Forest The Otterbach and Ellbach valleys, which are crossed by the Sulzbach, are rich in forest and stones. Countless granite rocks frolic in the water. On partly narrow riverside paths, we enjoy the narrow valleys, undisturbed by any car noise. On the way to the beautifully located Otterbachtal forest inn, we can choose between a demanding and a wide riverside path.
