An extremely colorful and varied hike that leads from the beauty of the longest sand dunes in Menorca and the offshore, kilometer-long sandy beach of Platges de Son Bou, to one of the most important Balearic archaeological sites "Torre d`en Galmes". The monumental buildings of the pre-Talayotic complex date back to the 3rd millennium BC and offer a deep insight into the well-preserved settlement from the island's early period. Fantastic views fascinate from Cap de Ses Penyes, the dividing point on the coast - to the left, mighty cliffs and to the right, the long sandy bay with the Prat de Son Bou wetlands. Further scenic delicacies await at the Barrancogrund and the pristine bay of Cala de Lluclari, framed by steep cliffs.

From the rocky coast to a Talayotic villageOn this hike, we first explore the diverse coastal promontory Cap de Ses Penyes and the narrow gorge of Cala de Llucalari. Then, on the Camí de Cavalls and tracks over wide pastures, we climb up to the scenic hill with the partially excavated impressive site: Besides the pyramid-shaped Talayots, round houses, Taulas (tables), cisterns, and impressive columned halls (Hypostylos) can be seen.

Menorca's Viewpoint – Old Paths and New RoadsA visit to Monte Toro is a must for all Menorca visitors due to its comprehensive spectacular panoramic view. It clearly shows that we are on an island: a perfect bird's-eye view over the different regions of Menorca. The proposed route here has its stretches on asphalt roads, but overall it is surprisingly beautiful and truly adventurous. And thanks to the fairly good bus connections, we don't need to do it twice.

Rich natural wetlands and the longest dune of MenorcaIn the alluvial land of two ravines, the wetland Prat de Son Bou has formed, which is protected towards the sea by a 2.5 km long dune. The popular hike first circles it on the land side on solid paths, from which we can go on a trace search into the quiet Barranco de Son Boter. A second detour leads us over a beautiful short stretch of cliff coast to the edge of Sant Tomàs. On the way back, we walk on or next to the dune back to Son Bou.
Camí del Campàs On Carrer de Ciutadella we continue downhill and leave the settlement. At the next roundabout, we turn right and cross a valley bottom with gardens on Camí del Campàs. © Laura Aguilar, Ulrich Redmann

Diverse round trip around Alaior – including a quarry cathedral A surprising tour! There is always something to discover on this walk: a diverse plant and animal world at first, but above all the work of humans: suburban gardens, pavilions, quarries, military buildings, art caves, and much more – absolutely worthwhile!
